342: "Don't Worry Fat Kids" - Joe's Apartment (1996)

It's Ben's pick this week on Saturday Night Jive and since he's not bound by the rules of picking movies that relate to SNL we watched the Don Ho classic Joe's Apartment from 1996.  A beautiful love story about a kid in the big city fighting against corporate greed and trying to make his way in a world that doesn't understand him.  Also there's animated roaches that annoy and ruin every scene with their sped up voices.  This movie stars Jerry O'Connell, Robert Vaughn, and the amazing thespians Don Ho and Pepa.  MTV's first foray into feature films is a big old mess.  It's also not that interesting to talk about so we spend the majority of the podcast talking about George driving his wife to an emergency room through a tornado and playing a new game based on the website Common Sense Media.  Enjoy!

341: "Just The Times When It Really Stinks" - SNL S20E05 - Sarah Jessica Parker / R.E.M.

You like hearing people talk about an old ass episode of SNL?  Well, this is the podcast for you!  This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Season 20 Episode 5 hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker with musical guest R.E.M..  It's one of the worst episodes in the show's history.  This was the week where Michael O'Donoghue died and the Republicans took control of congress and the whole show feels like a liberal wake.  We got some good old fashioned SNL racism with a sketch taking place in a Fortune Cookie Factory, bad Brooklyn accents, Adam Sandler and Michael McKean fighting over Sarah through song, some classic Norm MacDonald jokes, Robert Evans trying to rape young ladies, and quite possibly the worst SNL sketch ever in Munchkinland.  Enjoy!

340: "Gee, I Hope These Kids Bone" - Camp Nowhere (1994)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched another cheat pick.  Camp Nowhere from 1994 has no SNL alums in it but it does have Christopher Lloyd as a former drama teacher who lives in a van becoming the only adult supervision to a group of Lord Of The Flies wannabes.  A bunch of shitty kids decide to start their own summer camp with no rules.  It's the horniest movie starring children you'll ever watch (but you shouldn't watch it).  Also featuring Biff from Back To The Future, M. Emmett Walsh, the shy nun from Sister Act, and two kids who would later join weird sex cults.  Enjoy!

339: "Full Frontal Ray Romano" - Welcome To Mooseport (2004)

This week on Saturday Night Jive George's wet dreams become a reality as we finally watch Welcome To Mooseport starring two-time SNL host Ray Romano in his feature film debut and two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman in his final time on screen.  This 2004 comedy follows a small town handyman who runs for mayor against the former President of the United States.  It's a Frank Capra-esque movie filled with colorful locals and one naked man.  It's not very funny, it's not very entertaining, it's not very memorable, but we watched it so now you have to listen to us talk about it as well as a deep dive discussion on soft-core pornography.  Enjoy!

338: "That's A Baby Worth Hunting To Death" - The Pest (1997)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the John Leguizamo classic The Pest from 1997.  John stars as the most annoying character ever put on film who is hunted by a Nazi in a spoof of The Most Dangerous Game.  This film has a small SNL connection as the director of this also directed a Saturday Night Christmas Special.  It also features that little scamp Jeffrey Jones who has made numerous appearances on this podcast since he's been in a lot of bad movies.  Here he plays a part he's played before, the villain who you root for because you really want this Nazi to murder the main character.  This movie is so racist it makes you root for a Nazi played by a convicted sex predator.  We talk about the differences between a fat ass and a big butt, poop, vomit, birds eating vomit and then pooping out the vomit on a guy, it's a terribly gross movie.  Enjoy!

337: "Sweet Sassy Molassey" - SNL S24E15 - Ray Romano / The Coors

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching another old ass episode of SNL.  From Season 24 it's the episode hosted by Ray Romano with musical guest The Coors.  Why are we watching this one?  Well, because George is a big fan of Ray Romano and wants to watch Welcome To Mooseport so we're watching this to make that movie canonical (so stay tuned for that in 2 weeks).  Also, it's a really good episode.  Ray Romano plays Roberto Benigni, he shouts some racist catchphrases on SportsCenter, slaps around some fat hos on Pimp Chat, details his dying wish of hobo sex slaves in an army trench, listens to Saul Forrester's gibberish, and eases a Will Ferrell temper tantrum.  We also get The Coors doing an Irish jig, Barbara Walters having phone sex, and Monica Lewinsky on Weekend Update.  Enjoy!

336: "Shelley Winters Farting In Red Buttons's Face" - The Silence Of The Hams (1994)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the Ezio Greggio classic The Silence Of The Hams which features no SNL alum unless you count Dom Irrera who can be seen as an extra in Season 6.  We got former SNL host Charlene Tilton as well as a cavalcade of D-level celebrities we've seen in other movies like Stuart Pankin, Rip Taylor, and Eddie Deezen.  Until we finally get to see Jurassic Pork, this may be the greatest spoof movie of all time (not really).  A parody of Psycho, The Silence Of The Lambs, and other 90s thrillers written by, directed by, and starring a guy with a very heavy Italian accent.  Dom DeLuise plays Hannibal Cannibal Pizza and if that excites you then listen to all the fun we had watching it.  Enjoy!

335: "You Like-A Da Juice" - A Rob Schneider Hodgepodge An SNL Recurring Character Study

And we're back with another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances.  This week we're covering a collection of recurring characters from Mr. Rob Schneider.  We could do The Richmeister, but instead we're gonna jump into the deep end and cover every installment of The Sensitive Naked Man, Out Of Africa, Hub's Gyros, and Orgasm Guy.  If that's not enough we also throw in a sketch where Schneider plays Hitler with three legs.  Is Sensitive Naked Man more naked than sensitive?  Where can I put my weed?  Do you really like-a the juice?  Where can I find a font that looks like jizz in Microsoft Office?  These questions and more all answered on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!

Sketches Include
The Sensitive Naked Man - Season 17, Episode 12 hosted by Susan Dey
The Sensitive Naked Man - Season 17, Episode 20 hosted by Woody Harrelson
Out Of Africa - Season 19, Episode 1 hosted by Charles Barkley
Out Of Africa - Season 19, Episode 5 hosted by Christian Slater
Hub's Gyros - Season 18, Episode 17 hosted by Jason Alexander
The Juice - Season 18, Episode 20 hosted by Kevin Kline
Orgasm Guy - Season 18, Episode 9 hosted by Glenn Close

334: "You Can't Blame The Mustache" - Surf Ninjas (1993)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we take another dip in the Rob Schneider pool and watched Surf Ninjas from 1993.  The story of two young boys and their 30 year old friend who discover that they are actually the heirs to a kingdom on a magical ninja island.  Only one thing stands in their way, cyborg Leslie Nielsen.  With the help of a magical SEGA Game Gear and Tone Loc they complete their quest to reclaim their throne.  There's not much surfing and the ninja stuff is boring.  This is pretty much a huge waste of time other than Rob Schneider in a Hitler mustache.  Enjoy!

333: "Gags And Goofabouts" - Moving Violations (1985)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched a movie starring Bill Murray...'s brother, not the one you're thinking of.  No, not that one either.  It's the John Murray classic Moving Violations.  Also starring Stacy Keach's brother, Meg Tilly's sister and an Academy Award worthy performance from the 'Where's The Beef?' lady.  This movie has it all.  Car chases, montages, a puppet van crashing into a funeral home, Fred Willard inspecting a lady like an automobile, an old lady sitting on a urinal, sex in a space simulator, animated clothes getting it on, and more.  Where exactly was the beef?  And should we still be avoiding The Noid?  All this and more on this week's episode.  Enjoy!

332: "Harry Eats Seattle" - Harry And The Hendersons (1987)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Harry And The Hendersons from 1987 starring 3-time SNL host John Lithgow and the immortal Kevin Peter Hall in a bigfoot costume.  This film left George in a world of wonder while Ben is too jaded and cynical to enjoy such whimsy.  Rick Baker won an Oscar for making a terrific character that for some reason the marketing department decided to hide from all advertisement.  You won't see Harry on the poster or in the trailers, you have to pay money to see this.  What happened?  The movie didn't do well commercially but it did inspire a TV sitcom that lasted 3 seasons (somehow) which we get into the weeds with.  Is John Lithgow our greatest living actor?  Did Harry just run out on his family?  These questions and more on this week's episode.  Enjoy!

331: "Black Don't Crack" - SNL S20E03 - John Travolta / Seal

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching another old ass episode of SNL.  From Season 20 it's the episode hosted by John Travolta with musical guest Seal.  Believe it or not, John Travolta is a heterosexual man but you'd be right to be confused when you see him singing as Barbra Streisand, playing gay Dracula, and wearing eyeliner as a mafia don.  This episode leads to a variety of topics including a rallying cry for human rights.  Sketches include a Staying Alive cold open, a monologue jam packed with Travolta references, Bathroom Monkey, Coffee Talk, Gay Dracula, a Norm MacDonald Weekend Update, Quentin Tarantino's Welcome Back Kotter, Chris Elliott getting kicked in the nards repeatedly, Marlon Brando feeding Larry King some shit cookies, Chris Farley screaming at Tim Meadows, a deaf mobster, and Seal.  Enjoy!

330: "The Sports Marketing Hall Of Fame" - Old Dogs (2009)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Old Dogs a confounding film from 2009 starring SNL hosts Robin Williams and John Travolta as well as Matt Dillon, I realize I'm just clinging to the fact that our podcast is tangentially SNL related anymore but we'll get back to the show next week when we watch John Travolta host the show.  But first, Old Dogs.  How to describe this movie?  It's like The Cat In The Hat on steroids.  Nothing makes any logical sense and then you're at boy scout camp playing prison rules ultimate frisbee with Justin Long.  Then before you know it you're being controlled by master puppeteer Bernie Mac.  Then you may have facial paralysis and eat a dead lady's pie.  That's basically the plot of Old Dogs.  All this plus an eternal question about John Travolta's balls.  Enjoy!

329: "Grace Kelly Farts" - SNL S35E06 - January Jones / Black Eyed Peas

This week on
Saturday Night Jive we're watching a notorious episode of Saturday Night Live.  It's Season 35 Episode 6 hosted by January Jones with musical guest Black Eyed Peas.  The lovely Miss Jones was starring on an Emmy winning television show at the time so one would only assume she could hold her own on a live sketch comedy show.  All that hope died when she audibly asks what camera she should look at in her first sketch appearance.  What follows is a lot of farts, a lot of gay panic, and worst of all 3 songs from Black Eyed Peas.  Surprisingly, we're torn on this one.  George, a lifelong SNL fan, thinks it's the trainwreck it is historically perceived to be.  Ben on the other hand liked the farts, but maybe that's because he hates this long running show.  Sketches include a Joe Biden cold open, Kathie Lee Gifford getting beaten up by Black Eyed Peas, Grace Kelly farting during Rear Window, Kristen Wiig lezzing out over January Jones, A guide to throwing a 1960's dinner party, Dr. Jekyll explaining a gay Mr. Hyde, Andy Samberg sitting on a toilet, Jason Sudeikis and January looking at clouds, plus Lou Dobbs, Kim Kardashian, and Jon Bovi on Weekend Update.  Enjoy!

328: "Let's Look Through My Ass" - Ed (1996)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Ed from 1996 starring Matt LeBlanc and a guy in a monkey suit.  No SNL alum in this piece of shit but there's nothing in the rule book that says an SNL podcast can't watch a movie about a monkey playing baseball that doesn't have an SNL cast member in it.  Matt LeBlanc is actually the only Friends star who never hosted SNL and there was an episode of SNL where Jim Breuer played Matt LeBlanc holding a monkey, so there's your SNL connections.  A dude in a monkey suit, Jack Warden coin flips, monkey farts, Bill Cobbs, monkeys using the bathroom, Jesus Christ himself getting cut from the team, cartoon dollar signs in eyeballs, monkey dress-up montage, this movie has it all.  Enjoy!

327: "Kate Beckinsale's Lucky Hat" - Tiptoes (2003)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Tiptoes starring Gary Oldman as a dwarf.  It's a nonsensical film about Matthew McConaughey who is the only non-dwarf in a family of dwarves and he's about to get married to Kate Beckinsale (who sometimes wears a hat).  She doesn't know anything about his family and freaks out when she realizes her soon-to-be-born child might be a dwarf.  So she confronts him at fire fighting training camp, he brings two whores to a dwarf party, David Alan Grier fucks a dwarf, Peter Dinklage and Patricia Arquette fuck to some reggae music, a dad tells a limerick about farts, Jewish wedding.  It's a tale as old as time.  Oh yeah, and Gary Oldman plays McConaughey's dwarf brother so he's on his knees the whole film while he's surrounded by actual little person actors.  It's a big old plate of wrong with a salad of what the fuck on the side.  There are no SNL alums in this movie but David Alan Grier hosted SNL twice and by all accounts should have been a cast member.  Enjoy!

326: "A Baby Is Not A Queef" - No Holds Barred (1989)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the 1989 classic No Holds Barred otherwise known as the single greatest movie ever made.  Starring one-time SNL host Hulk Hogan (check out episode 206 of our podcast for a full rundown of his Season 10 episode) and written by Hulk and WWF president Vince McMahon, this movie is either accidentally brilliant or intentionally brilliant (we can't tell) but it is without a doubt the greatest movie in film history.  Hulk plays Rip, the most popular wrestler in the world, and he's being hounded by a rival network president who wants him to wrestle on his network.  Featuring an Academy Award performance from the great Kurt Fuller, this movie has everything.  Panties that go from navel to knee, dwarves that don't look like Peter Dinklage, readily available assassins, feet that look like either butts or balls, pie fights, shabbily made American shirts, Jacob from Lost in traction, and of course, dookie.

325: "Let Your Mom F**k Chevy Chase" - Man Of The House (1995)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1995 family comedy Man Of The House starring SNL alum Chevy Chase.  After a string of flops (see our episodes on Nothing But Trouble and Cops And Robbersons) Chevy didn't want to do another film but eventually agreed to sign on because he liked the dramatic elements of the script.  One could argue that there shouldn't be dramatic elements in the script of a movie that has Chevy Chase and George Wendt doing a rain dance.  This is not the movie we expected.  We were looking forward to a crazy cat and mouse caper with a lot of Chevy falling down and Jonathan Taylor Thomas laying mousetraps all over the floor.  Instead we got a heartfelt family comedy about a kid learning to love his new stepdad with Enya on the soundtrack.  Of course there's a mafia subplot as well and we get Chevy Chase in a Native American headdress.  Should you talk about sex with your mommy?  What are the artistic values of Cirque du Soleil?  Why did George Wendt's character need to be played by a fat guy?  These questions and more on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1989 classic Second Sight starring two people who hosted SNL.  Bronson Pinchot and John Larroquette star in this comedy about a detective and a psychic trying to solve a case of a missing cardinal.  Don't worry, Stuart Pankin is in the film too.  It's a big old pile of crazy.  Enjoy!

323: "An Orifice Of Your Choice" - Tremors 3 Back To Perfection (2001)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching Tremors 3: Back To Perfection.  Why?  Because SNL alum Mary Gross plays Tourist Mom, probably the most respected role in her filmography.  This direct to DVD sequel has Michael Gross (brother to Mary) shooting graboids and ass blasters with the help of a plucky sidekick and a lady who runs a convenience store.  This is te first Tremors film for George while Ben has seen the entire film series and TV show.  The promise of tremors flying with the power of their farts was intriguing but lacked a little something in execution.  You can still listen to us talk about it and I hope you enjoyed the farts.  Enjoy!

322: "He's A Big Fat Ugly Guy" - Bogus (1996)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're doing another cheat pick.  There are no SNL alums in the 1996 film Bogus but we watched it anyway.  It does feature Andrea Martin who is related to SNL alum Martin Short and was offered a spot on Season 10 (according to rumors) so that counts, right?  This movie stars a pre-Sixth Sense Haley Joel Osment who creates an imaginary friend after his mother dies.  The imaginary friend is played by big fat Gerard DePardieu who is not funny, charming, or imaginative.  Whoopi Goldberg plays Haley's legal guardian who seems to detest children and wants nothing to do with the kid until she does a soft shoe routine with Bogus that turns her heart around (we guess).  It's a heartwarming family drama about a little orphan that they threw a big fat French guy in to hang around in the background of scenes.  Seriously, the imaginary friend aspect of this movie is way less of the plot than you would think.  Is Gerard DePardieu sexy?  We get into it.  Enjoy!

321: "Slapping On Condoms In A Dank Basement" - Trojan War (1997)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking the Anthony Michael Hall classic from 1997 Trojan War.   This movie is most famous for at one time being the lowest grossing movie of all time, making a hefty $309 at the U.S. box office.  If you ask us, around 60 theater goers are owed a refund and we've started a class action suit to get their $4.59 back.  Will Friedle from Boy Meets World really wants to fuck Marley Shelton, there's just one problem.  He doesn't have a condom!  So he goes on an After Hours like trip through the city to obtain a precious Trojan.  AMH shows up as a crazy bus driver and he's the best part of the film, well him or the kung fu janitor.  Enjoy!

320: "Joey Baloney" - The Big Bus (1976)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched a film that parodies the disaster movie genre that was all the rage in the 1970s.  No, not Airplane!, it's The Big Bus from 1976 starring Stockard Channing, Joey Baloney, Richard Mulligan, the guy who played Richard Mulligan's partner in A Fine Mess, Rene Auberjonis, Sally Kellerman, Ned Beatty, Harold Gould, Larry Hagman, Murph from The Blues Brothers, and one-time oldest SNL host Ruth Gordon.  This movie came out 4 years before Airplane!, shares a lot of similarities with Airplane!, but is in no way connected to Airplane!.  The world's first nuclear powered bus is taking its maiden voyage, several accidents happen, and only Joey Baloney can drive it home safely.  It's an interesting movie that's pretty funny.  You may have read about it in Bus World magazine.  Enjoy!

319: "That's The Thing" - Brain Donors (1992) / Babylon (2022)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1992 comedy Brain Donors.  There are no SNL alum in this film but it was directed by Dennis Dugan who after watching Problem Child, Beverly Hills Ninja, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, You Don't Mess With The Zohan, Grown Ups, Jack And Jill, and Grown Ups 2 feels like an honorary member of our family.  This is a "remake" of The Marx Brothers film A Night At The Opera (with a little bit of A Day At The Races thrown in) starring John Turturro, the guy who ran the torture machine in The Princess Bride, and some other dude as analogs for Groucho, Chico and Harpo.  It's an odd movie with a few decent gags but you're ultimately left with the feeling of "why didn't I just watch a Marx Brothers movie?".  If we didn't have enough to talk about with this oddity we also discuss Damien Chazelle's Babylon featuring SNL alum Chloe Fineman in a small role.  It's one of our favorite films of 2022 that has an ending that left us both stumped.  Enjoy!

318: "We Saved You With Farts" - K-911 (1999)

Ten years after K-9 took cinemas by storm, a direct-to-video sequel was made.  This week on Saturday Night Jive we're finally digging into this trilogy, of course we start with the second one, because we're dumb.  It's K-911 starring an old dog and SNL alum Jim Belushi.  A crazed author is out for revenge on the husband of the woman who rejected his manuscript (because he fell in love with the rejection letter, it's stupid, we talk about it).  Belushi must get a new partner, who has her own dog, and of course also has a crush on our hero, to solve the case.  For a direct to video sequel of a movie you probably didn't see 10 years ago, it's not that bad.  Not saying it's the greatest thing we've ever watched but there was some slight fun to be had in Jim Belushi working out with his dog, picking up dog poop, and of course smelling some doggy farts.  Does a silent-but-deadly count when it comes to Mr. Skids?  Don't worry, we get in to the legitimacy of dog farts.  Enjoy!

317: "But I Put It In My Mouth" - Zardoz (1974)

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're breaking format and doing another cheat pick.  It's Ben's favorite movie Zardoz from 1974 starring frequent SNL impersonation Sean Connery as a brutal who chases down a fake god living in a giant head (or something).  It's certainly a movie, and you can't say it isn't.  Enjoy!
