316: "A Bunch Of White Guys Eating Cheese" - SNL S23E10 - Samuel L Jackson / Ben Folds Five

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching the episode of SNL that crushed a young George's childhood.  So excited he was to enter a new year with his favorite show.  One of his idols, Chris Farley, died over the holiday break but one of his favorite actors Samuel L. Jackson is hosting with one of his favorite bands Ben Folds Five and of course he would laugh hysterically at Weekend Update, anchored by his comedic deity Norm MacDonald.  What's this?  Colin fucking Quinn?  This is the first episode after Norm was fired from Update, although he's still on the show doing a pitch perfect Quentin Tarantino impression.  Sit back and enjoy two brothers talking about a show only one of them likes.  Sketches include a Bill Clinton cold open, Samuel L. Jackson's New Years resolutions, Publisher's Clearing House Giveaway, Quentin Tarantino: A Profile, Jazzterpieces, Judge Judy, George Clooney, Titanic, Mango, The Learning Annex, and Poolside Lovin' plus Ben Folds Five plays Brick and Harry Caray on Update.  Enjoy!

315: "Poop Fairy" - RV (2006)

There may not be any SNL alums in RV from 2006 but that didn't stop us from pulling out a good old cheat pick.  Former SNL hosts Robin Williams, Jeff Daniels, and Josh Hutcherson star in this road trip comedy directed by the guy who gave us Nine Lives, Barry Sonnenfeld.  There is an awful lot of poop in this one, and it covers the late, great Robin Williams.  Does this movie rule as hard as Ernest Goes To Jail?  How's the chatter on those Arrested Development message boards?  And should you ever see the shit?  These questions and more on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!

314: "I'm Gonna F**k This Dog Man" - Walk Like A Man (1987)

We watched Walk Like A Man starring Howie Mandel as Bobo, a man who was raised by wolves.  He's found by an anthropologist right before he's about to inherit millions of dollars from his rich and deceased father, but not if a very bored looking Christopher Lloyd has anything to do with it.  There are no SNL alums in this movie but it felt like a movie we should watch for the podcast.  But we do talk about Weird: The Al Yankovic Story featuring SNL alum Will Forte.  Enjoy!

313: "Farts, Farts, And More Farts" - Superhero Movie (2008)

We watched Superhero Movie from 2008 featuring SNL alum Tracy Morgan as Professor X, in a scene that was forced into the film by everyone's favorite sex magnet Harvey Weinstein.  We're surprisingly torn on this film.  George thinks it's hilarious and a diamond in the rough when it comes to spoof movies.  Ben thinks it's just an average comedy.  But the one thing we can all agree upon is that it's got one hell of a fart coming out of Marion Ross's ass.  So, Enjoy!

312: "Can We Stop Talking About The Try Guys?" - Taking Care Of Business (1990)

For some reason, in 1990 they remade the terrible film The Couch Trip.  Remember that movie we watched and didn't like starring Dan Aykroyd where he switched places with Charles Grodin and priest suits were involved?  Well, they did it again just a few years later with Jim Belushi taking over Grodin's life and they called it Taking Care Of Business.  We had high hopes for this one.  I mean, the poster has Belushi riding atop an automobile so how could that be a bad movie?  Turns out it's a big old turd of a movie.  Belushi breaks out of prison, steals Grodin's Filofax and uses his identity to bone a lady and see the Cubs win the World Series.  He does at one point pull a Mrs. Doubtfire to break back into prison (upsetting the evil warden played by, of course, Hector Elizondo) but that's not enough to save this movie where everything and anything will work out for our hero no matter how clueless he acts.  Enjoy!

311: "Cheap And Stupid" - Cabin Boy (1994)

We watched Cabin Boy from 1994 starring SNL alum Chris Elliott.  Both of us are big fans of most all of Elliott's work from Get A Life to Action Family to There's Something About Mary to his short lived stint on Saturday Night Live and Eagleheart as well as his novels.  Everything the man has ever done has been hilarious...except his only starring vehicle, Cabin Boy.  A critical and commercial failure originally intended as a directorial vehicle for Tim Burton.  Chris Elliott and his writing partner Adam Resnick wrote a script with a bunch of weird shit in it to appease the batshit crazy Burton.  Then when Burton left they made the movie anyway.  It failed and 25 years later we watched it for Saturday Night Jive.  It's a bit of a bummer but hope you enjoy listening to us talk about it.  Enjoy!

310: "Protruding Bone Situation" - Carol An SNL Recurring Character Study

And we're back with another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances.  This week we're covering a very divisive character from a very divisive human being.  It's Carol! starring Horatio Sanz in a dress.  She's a big, crude, loud woman who loves ordering off the menu, taking dumps, smoking blunts, and most especially alluring men with her wit and charm.  Enjoy as we cover every Carol! sketch and find out what makes this enchanting woman tick.

Sketches Include
Key Party - Season 30, Episode 7 hosted by Colin Farrell
Carol! - Season 31, Episode 4 hosted by Lance Armstrong
Carol! - Season 31, Episode 8 hosted by Alec Baldwin
Carol! - Season 31, Episode 11 hosted by Peter Sarsgaard

309: "Nobody's Favorite Movie Is Blankman" - Blankman (1994)

We watched Blankman from 1994 starring SNL alum Damon Wayans and if you pay close attention you'll see fellow SNL alum Gilbert Gottfried on the TV in the background of one scene.  This movie also has SNL hosts Jason Alexander and David Alan Grier (who should have been an SNL cast member) as well as Mike Tyson's girlfriend and Jon Polito.  This was originally intended to be a movie starring Howard Stern as his Fartman character but got retooled into a movie that is neither a good comedy nor is it a good superhero movie.  It's a big waste of time but we watched it and talked about it so Enjoy!

308: "Did You Think About The Daddys?" - Chairman Of The Board (1998)

Why did we watch Chairman Of The Board starring prop comic Carrot Top?  Many reasons, 1 - we're dumb and do dumb things, 2 - Norm MacDonald referenced it on a talk show once, 3 - It's got the great Larry Miller in it (who is kind of an honorary Saturday Night Jive alum at this point).  Carrot Top's big screen debut took the world by storm in 1998 and over 20 years later we watched it and talked about it.  Enjoy!

307: "Yabba Dabba Doo Bitches" - The Flintstones (1994)

Apparently Laraine Newman is in The Flintstones.  I just watched the movie and I don't believe it.  Supposedly she's on the TV in the background of a scene playing news reported Susan Rock, an exceptionally funny pun.  We watched the live action adaptation of a cartoon nobody cares about starring 13 time SNL host John Goodman and the sexy and enchanting star of Exit To Eden, Rosie O'Donnell.  It's a terROCKic conversation for a FLINTastic movie.  Enjoy!

306: "The Maid Has Big Boobs" - Clue (1985)

We're talking Clue this week on Saturday Night Jive.  Starring an all star cast that includes Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Colleen Camp's cleavage, Howard Hesseman, and SNL alum Michael McKean.  Heralded as a cult classic, we found it to be a huge disappointment.  The most interesting thing about this is the fact that it was released in theaters with three different endings.  The home video release includes all three endings stitched together.  A bizarre marketing gimmick for a movie that probably shouldn't have been made.  Was anyone really clamoring for a movie adaptation of a board game?  Enjoy!

305: "The F**k Heard Round The World" - SNL S06E11 - Charlene Tilton / Todd Rundgren / Prince

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching another classic SNL episode from the notorious Season 6.  Lorne Michaels leaves the show and takes the cast and writers with him.  When the show comes back they've hired an all-star cast that includes Joe Piscopo, Gilbert Gottfried, Denny Dillon, Ann Risley, and of course, Charlie "Mutha-fuckin" Rocket.  This is the episode where it all came screeching to a halt.  Dallas star Charlene Tilton hosts with musical guests Todd Rundgren and "new talent" Prince.  Things are going as good as Season 6 goes, meaning the show is pretty terrible, and then all of a sudden during the Goodnights, Charles Rocket says one of the 7 words you can never say on television.  The cast reaction to the four letter word is one of my personal favorite SNL moments of all time.  Unfortunately the episode leading up to that glorious "fuck" is truly horrendous (minus the debut of Mister Robinson's Neighborhood).  Shortly after this incident the producer and entire cast were fired (with the exception of Joe Piscopo and Eddie Murphy) and they went back to the drawing board to re-tool the show a second time.  Sketches include Mister Robinson's Neighborhood, Pork Parade, Women Behind Bars, Submissive Sugar Daddies, Stevie Wonder in Fiddler On The Roof, a Rocket Report from the subway, and puppet boxing from Marc Weiner.  We're still trying to solve the mystery of Charles Rocket's murder and we're also on the lookout for the whereabouts of Yvonne Hudson.  Enjoy!

304: "What's Wrong With A Queef, Boy?" - Disaster Movie (2008)

We're cheating again on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive, but do you call it cheating when we hate winning?  We watched Disaster Movie from 2008 which features no SNL alums (but does reference SNL related movie You Don't Mess With The Zohan, along with every other movie that came out in 2008).  A few years ago we watched Epic Movie featuring Darrell Hammond so we decided (for some dumb reason) to go back to the well of Friedberg and Seltzer for another scoop of fun.  This movie sucks, but does it suck worse than Epic Movie?  It relentlessly references every movie from 2008 (actually it just references the trailers since the movies they are spoofing weren't released when they were in production) so you get fun goofs on classic films like 10,000 B.C., and The Love Guru, and Jumper, and The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and Wanted, and the remake of American Gladiators...we also get the big screen debut of Kim Kardashian.  Ugh.  Enjoy?

303: "Pat Morita Dropkicks A Car" - Collision Course (1989)

Welcome back to Saturday Night Jive where we talk about Saturday Night Live and Saturday Night Live related movies.  Except for this week, it's another freebie pick as we watched Collision Course starring Jay "Poopy Butt" Leno and Pat Morita.  This movie has no SNL connections but just felt like a movie we should have watched by now.  Jay and Pat are two buddy cops on the hunt for a stolen turbo charger and...some stuff happens.  It's a 90 minute movie with 2 or 3 great scenes.  Tom Noonan explodes in a pile of watermelons, an old lady drives a super car, and of course Pat Morita dropkicks Chris Sarandon through a car window.  Enjoy!

302: "Track Of Thought" - Death Wish (1974)

Welcome back to Saturday Night Jive.  This week we're talking Death Wish from 1974 starring Charles Bronson and a young Christopher Guest (who was a cast member on SNL, look it up).  This is a different type of movie than we normally cover, we usually don't deal with as many graphic rape scenes.  So, this isn't the usual comedy cavalcade we routinely bring you, instead it's a dissection of a film that spawned violent sequels and real acts of violence.  Should it still be watched in modern society?  How do different people interpret the message?  These questions and more on this week's episode.  But don't worry, next week we'll be watching a Jay Leno / Pat Morita action comedy so we're not retooling the podcast.  Enjoy!

301: "The Old Fake Beard In The Garbage Trick" - A Billion For Boris (1984)

Why did we watch A Billion For Boris?  Because we're dumb?  Well, yeah.  Because SNL alum Tim Kazurinsky is in it?  I guess.  Because George thought it was about a monkey who wins the lottery?  Perhaps.  Or is it just because this is Saturday Night Jive the podcast where we talk about random and obscure movies featuring cast members of Saturday Night Live and sometimes we land on a film nobody has ever heard of, will ever hear of, will ever watch, or will have any interest in whatsoever.  Seth Green makes his feature film debut in this movie where he plays a precocious young kid who accidentally creates a TV that can see into the future.  What do a group of young kids do with a prescient television?  You better believe they bet on the ponies.  This is a stupid movie, but this is a stupid podcast, so enjoy!

300: "Pisco-pullin" - Wise Guys (1986)

It's our 300th episode!  And we're celebrating by doing this act of stupidity in person for the first time since 2020.  We watched Brian De Palma's 1986 "comedy" Wise Guys starring SNL alum Joe Piscopo and 5-timers club member Danny DeVito as well as the feature film debut of Captain Lou Albano and his giant underpants.  It was a piece of shit so we spend most of the episode talking about other crappy movies we've seen like Jurassic World: Dominion, Lightyear, and Elvis (featuring frequent SNL host Tom Hanks in a performance for the ages).  At least we finally answer the question, what exactly was Danny DeVito doing to that hotdog?

299: "Who Wants To Suck This Thing?" - My Five Wives (2000)

Get ready for some Rodney Dangerfield impressions because we watched My Five Wives a Rodney comedy from 2000 featuring SNL alum Molly Shannon.  It's fine.  What more did you expect from one of the last movies starring a comedy legend?  Rodney plays a very old man who buys land in a Utah town that comes with 3 wives.  Then he gets married to 2 more ladies.  If you're counting along at home, that makes 5 wives this guy has to have sex with constantly.  Andrew Dice Clay plays a mobster (because of course this movie has a mafia subplot, every movie does) John Pinette plays a guy who gets cameras shoved up his butt.  You know what?  Don't think too much about the plot of this movie it's mostly just Rodney one-liners and half of them are decently funny.  Hear us break it down on the last episode of our second hundred.  Enjoy!

298: "The New N-Word" - SNL Sitcoms

It's 3 episodes for the price of 1 this week on Saturday Night Jive as we watched some episodes of old sitcoms featuring SNL alums, all of which are available on YouTube.  First, Dan Aykroyd stars in Soul Man as a widowed priest with too many kids who wants to fuck but can't because of his devotion to God.  Then we talk about One Of The Boys starring old ass Mickey Rooney and a baby face Dana Carvey.  Rooney plays a man who left the old folks home to move in with his grandson's college dorm.  In this episode he raises money for Nathan Lane's tuition (all $2,000 of it) and gets accused of burglary in a weird Scooby Doo subplot.  Then finally we discuss The Michael Richards Show featuring Tim Meadows hot off his record setting SNL tenure playing second banana to Kramer himself.  The pilot episode of this show proves that there's nothing funnier than rape.  Enjoy!

297: "Live Animals Shoved Up Trump's Ass" - Americathon (1979)

We watched Americathon from 1979 starring no SNL alum.  It's another cheat week.  We tried to watch King Ralph starring 13 time SNL host John Goodman but turns out it was hella boring so we watched this instead featuring host of the first episode of SNL George Carlin, former host Jay "Poopy Butt" Leno boxing his mother, notorious musical guest Elvis Costello, and one-time SNL musical guest Meat Loaf wrestling a car.  It's a weird movie that tries to be a satire of how low we will sink in the far future of 1998.  Turns out it got a lot correct, we're a fucking dumb country that does dumb shit.

296: "Chekhov's Nazi Dildo" - A Fine Mess (1986)

It's a cheat week on Saturday Night Jive.  If you don't know our premise after almost 300 episodes, we usually watch movies featuring SNL alum but this week we dug into the barrel of film obscurity and pulled out A Fine Mess from 1986 starring one-time SNL host Ted Danson and Howie Mandel in a remake of a Laurel & Hardy short.  This Blake Edwards directed piece of shit is certainly an oddity but we're torn on whether it's an obscure artifact you should know about or if it ever should have existed in the first place.  Howie and Ted are two buddies who love fuckin'.  They're on the run from mafia goons, they accidentally buy a vintage piano, they run around a lot, Howie opens a racist restaurant, and... what else happens in this movie?  Oh yeah, there's a dildo made by Nazi Larry Storch that gets shoved up a horse's ass.  Said dildo then gets shoved up Richard Mulligan's ass and results in him gaining super speed powers.  It's a fine mess...of shit.  Enjoy!

We watched Jane Austen's Mafia from 1998 starring SNL alum Jay Mohr and featuring the last performance of the legendary Lloyd Bridges.  What a turd!  I guess we should have known that before we watched it, but we can now confirm that this movie blows.  A parody of The Godfather, which came out 26 years earlier, by the A in ZAZ Jim Abrahams.  A bunch of bad jokes, some puke, some farts, and an old man near the end of life being forced to fall down a lot.  Enjoy!

We lost the great Gilbert Gottfried recently so as a tribute we watched his performance in Problem Child from 1990.  This is a prequel to Problem Child 2, which we previously covered on this podcast starring John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck as two parents who adopt a red-headed piece of shit who causes a whole bunch of trouble.  Gilbert plays the adoption agent who barely factors into the film, but did make it to both sequels.  RIP Gilbert, those tsunami victims can make fun of you now.  If you listened to our last episode where we spun the wheel like 50 times to pick a movie and eventually landed on Spice World, sorry but we didn't know Gilbert would die and we have to do something for somebody who appeared on 12 episodes of SNL.

We’re finally doing it.  We watched Feds starring SNL alum Mary Gross and it turned out to be a huge waste of time.  Tony Longo’s performance as the sailor aside, this movie was one of the most dull and pointless we’ve ever watched.  Was it meant to be a comedy?  How many pizzas can a man eat?  How many Tremors sequels are there?  Who the fuck is Tony Longo?  These questions and a lot of wheel spinning on this week’s episode of Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!

291: "How Dumb Is America?" - Police Academy 4 Citizens On Patrol (1987)

We're dumb.  We watched Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol.  This is the first movie in the Police Academy series we've seen.  We thought it would be funny to watch the 4th one, because it features SNL alums Tim Kazurinsky and David Spade.  Turns out, they were really running out of steam by the time they got to this one.  How dumb was America that people kept going to the theater year after year to see another Police Academy movie?  Steve Guttenberg's final entry in the series has the group of prankster policemen training some skateboard punks to be street vigilantes.  Then they fight ninjas for some reason.  This movie is dumb so we spend a lot of time talking about The Batman and movies we used to spank it to instead.  Enjoy!

It's a bare-knuckle debate over Corky Romano starring Chris Kattan.  Is it, as Ben says, an awful piece of shit?  Or, is it a comedy classic starring this era's Buster Keaton?  Only you can decide as George and Ben are torn on this 2001 comedy that was ghost written by Paul Thomas Anderson on a 10 day coke bender.  Kattan stars as the titular Corky, the son of a mobster, who infiltrates the FBI to recover evidence against his family.  It's basically The Departed with a few more farts.  Enjoy!

We watched Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star starring SNL alum David Spade as a guy who became famous on a sitcom when he was a kid.  Now he's auditioning for a Rob Reiner movie but has to move in with a family and pretend to be their son because...it will make him a better actor?  I dunno.  This is one of the laziest movies we've ever watched with a stupid fucking plot that makes no sense.  It's just sad all around, especially for poor Ian Gomez who is forced to deepthroat a Twinkie for laughs and because all the child stars they throw in at the end for a sight gag are now mostly dead due to drug overdoses.  Enjoy!

285: "An Elaborate Network Of Trusses" - Uncle Roy An SNL Recurring Character Study

Oh, goodness.  Welcome back to ...And We're Back the series in our podcast where we dive into an SNL recurring character and discuss everyone of their appearances.  We watched all 3 Uncle Roy sketches and that turned out to be a big mistake.  For the unfamiliar, Uncle Roy was a character played by Buck Henry and the gag is that he's a pedophile uncle who comes over to babysit the kids.  We watch him take pictures of girls in their underwear, rub their private areas, and basically indulge in kiddy diddling foreplay...on a comedy show!  This is one of the more notorious, controversial, and downright unrepentant characters in the show's history.  As a much needed palette cleanser we also watched Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute and Switcheroo from the John Mulaney episode.  Enjoy!

Sketches include

And we're back with another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back where we dive into the history of an SNL recurring character.  This week we're talking about Joey Mack, a Jimmy Fallon creation who's a one-man morning zoo crew with a cavalcade of problematic voices.  We go on a journey through all 5 of his appearances and, surprisingly, grow to appreciate him.  Speaking of problematic, we also watched the sketch where he played Chris Rock in blackface because why not?  If that's not enough we also cover Frondi a mentally challenged Fred Armisen character who technically had 2 appearances (and one of them was in the same episode as one of the Joey Mack sketches and I wanted to watch it again).

Sketches include
Z105 - Season 28 hosted by Eric McCormack
Z105 - Season 29 hosted by Andy Roddick
Z105 - Season 29 hosted by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
Z105 - Season 29 hosted by Ben Affleck
Z105 - Season 29 hosted by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen
Regis Auditions - Season 25 hosted by Joshua Jackson
Gigli - Season 29 hosted by Ben Affleck
